After two notes ( first , second ) about RSS monitoring tools, where if not all, then at least the most popular of such tools were considered, it is time to take care of “remote” monitoring of sites that do not support news feeds. There are indeed quite a few such sites and they often contain materials that would be nice to “establish constant monitoring” .
The above can also be applied to the hero of this article. In the sense that the site of this program also does not support RSS, and the material from this site (the WebMon program) is not bad at all.
WebMon is a free program for monitoring shopify website design website updates. It saves your time (and Internet traffic) by periodically checking for changes in the content of pages of websites you specify. The utility is less than 800 kilobytes in size, and the resources consumed are minimal.
Main characteristics of the WebMon program:
— Checking an unlimited number of web pages (within the system capabilities).
— Adjustable intervals between checks for each page.
— Ability to import IE and Firefox bookmarks.
— Notification about page changes. You can choose a sound signal and/or a pop-up message.
— Ability to launch other programs (using the command line) when the page is refreshed.
— Ability to select a specific part of the page to check.
— Proxy support.
Now let's see how WebMon works. First, you need to add the pages you want to check. To do this, click the first icon on the left on the program toolbar (1.
The window for adding a page will open. Let's enter, for example, the Russian-language page of the 7-Zip archiver (there is no RSS there either) and click OK:
After a short loading time, the following window will open, in which you can configure some features of working with this page:
In the first zone, you can change the address of the page being checked, in the second zone, you can adjust the page name, in the third zone, you can set the frequency of page checking, and in the fourth zone, you can specify an alternative page (which will be opened when an update is detected). There is also a button in this window (zone 5), which you can click to specify from which fragment of the page code (and by which one) you need to check for changes on this page.
It should be noted that sometimes the page name really needs to be adjusted - as you can see even on the screenshot, WebMon does not always correctly recognize Cyrillic. After finishing the settings, click OK.
Now the newly added page is present in the list of checked pages. It can be modified (2), deleted (3) or temporarily disabled (4):
\"WebMon\"
To check all updates, click icon 7, to check only selected ones, click icon 6. WebMon will download the latest versions of the specified pages and mark the changed ones with a special icon (with an asterisk). To quickly go to these pages, double-click on the name.
This is WebMon. The rest of the details of its operation, capabilities and settings are easily mastered "in battle". Although here too some difficulties are possible - I did not find a Russifier for this program. For people who do not know English, this may create inconveniences. In all other respects (except for the above-mentioned problems with encoding), the program fully meets the capabilities declared by its author, works stably and unnoticeably (because it is in the system tray), regularly reports changes and is generally pleasing to the eye .
